After School Program

The GUC After School Program is a dynamic and inclusive initiative designed to engage students through a variety of activities that nurture their minds, bodies, and spirits. From eSports and STEAM workshops to yoga, mindfulness, basketball, social-emotional learning, financial literacy, and drumline, our program fosters creativity, teamwork, and personal growth in a supportive environment. It’s the perfect blend of fun and education, empowering students to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Incorporating Yoga with Schools

Yoga, with its core principles of Breathing, Movement & Thought, has the power to transform lives. Students are facing mental health issues, anger, and communication difficulties more than ever.

Yoga proves instrumental in keeping students engaged, focused, and fostering robust mental confidence. Studies have shown its efficacy in addressing these concerns, yet there’s a notable scarcity of yoga data specifically for youth, athletes, and various racial or minority groups.

Many schools do not offer yoga or wellness programs, leaving students recovering from the impact of Covid-19 without the necessary social emotional support.

As the long-term effects of the pandemic on students remain uncertain, there’s a crucial need for more mindful programs to address their mental health.

Professional Development

Our services empower educators, coaches, corporate and community leaders through tailored wellness workshops and inspiring keynote speaking and panel sessions. Our offerings include workshops on mindfulness, team building, stress management, and movement-based practices, designed to foster mental, physical, and social-emotional resilience.

Injury Prevention for Youth Sports

Yoga offers numerous benefits for youth sports participants, including enhanced flexibility, strength, and balance, which are critical for optimal athletic performance. Regular yoga practice can significantly reduce the risk of sports-related injuries by improving joint stability and muscle coordination. Additionally, yoga fosters mental resilience and focus, helping young athletes manage stress and maintain composure under pressure. Integrating yoga into youth sports programs can thus contribute to both physical well-being and psychological readiness, promoting overall athletic success.

GUC Wellness Activations

Our monthly wellness activation is a donation base holistic event designed to enhance mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Attendees engage in activities such as breathwork, guided meditation, yoga, and a calming sound bath. To foster a nurturing environment for self-care and rejuvenation, participants receive yoga mats, water, fruit, and snacks. Each month, the activation is held at a different location in collaboration with local businesses and the City of Compton, strengthening community connections while promoting wellness.

Since 2022, GUC has been building a yoga community in Compton through free monthly yoga and sound bath sessions at accessible locations like Compton Airport, Wilson Park, Planet Health Compton, Pizza Studio, Alma Backyard Farm, and Compton College. Our mission is clear: to foster a community centered around wellness before opening Compton’s very first yoga studio. Planned for Fall 2025 in a premium, safe location at the Gateway Towne Center—surrounded by major retailers and restaurants—this 3,800 sq. ft. space will offer discounted classes for Compton residents, an after-school program, creative space, and wellness center—all made possible through grants and donations.
